DYFS Investigation

DYFS files an abuse or neglect case when it believes you have abused or neglected your child. This abuse or neglect can be reported from your child’s school, the hospital, neighbor, etc. Usually, DYFS wants to place or keep your child in foster care or another out-of-home placement until a judge determines what needs to be done. In some situations, DYFS does not want to remove your child, but wants the judge to allow DYFS to check on you and your child and to order you to participate in services DYFS believes you need. These services could include counseling or drug therapy. The goal is to ensure that you are providing a safe home for your child.
